President of Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh met with Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov during his visit to the Russian capital on August 15 to discuss economic cooperation...

´´We have discussed issues related to city infrastructure and agriculture and also the possible participation of the firms from Moscow in the Abkhaz agricultural sector,´´ Bagapsh said after talks.

Bagapsh also said that the Abkhaz side is ready to allocate a plot of land to the Moscow Municipality for construction of boarding houses.

He said that Yuri Luzhkov pledged to send 10 trolley buses to Abkhazia in the form of humanitarian aid.

Large scale military exercises are scheduled for August 15-17 in Abkhazia, the Defense Minister of Abkhazia stated...

According to Sultan Sosnaliyev, the exercises will be the largest since 2002, when the armed clashes between Georgia and Abkhazia ended.

Aside from regular military units, several brigades of reservists will participate in the maneuvers.

The minister invited the media to provide news coverage of the exercises.

The exercises will include demonstration firing and an amphibious assault landing.

Sosnaliyev said that the goal of the exercises is to practice combat tactics, to eliminate an enemy after it has performed an amphibious assault landing and to deploy reserves to repel enemy attacks from the sea or the mountains.

The minister said current exercises will be larger than the spring 2005 ...
