Shamba returns with words of promise
18/07/2007 Sukhum / Agency Caucasus - Foreign Minister Sergei Shamba of Abkhazia returned with positive words from the meeting of Georgia’s Group of Friends at the headquarters of United Nations (UN) Secretary-General.
Shamba told reporters that his talks with officials across Germany left him with the impression that there is nowadays a far more positive view of the Abkhazian demand for recognition.
“Even those who would think it impossible for Abkhazia to gain recognition of independence now tend to have a change for better in their outlook,” the official news agency Apsnipress quoted Shamba as saying.

Moscow / Agency Caucasus – The Sukhum administration reached Monday in Moscow mutual agreement to co-operate with the Russian administration.
News of the agreement came amid growing attention on an attempted attack against the Abkhazian Prime Minister Alexander Ankwab. The agreement, signed between the Abkhazian President Sergei Bagapsh and the Moscow Mayor Yuri Lujkov, suggests a series of future investment plans in the country.
The deal came after a decision was settled to organize the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi near the border of Abkhazia. It helped to have a greater amount of influence on the region, with on the other hand left less hopeful of re-conquering Abkhazia.

9/7/2007 Abkhazian public demands to find those attempted on Ankvab
Today at 8:15 a.m. in the city of Gudauta, an attempt was made on Prime Minister Alexandr Ankvab. The head of Abkhazian Government was hospitalized with slight wounds in his back, and then let home after first medical care.
The State Office of Public Prosecutor has initiated a "terror act" criminal case. A reward of 500,000 roubles has been announced for any information that may help in disclosing the crime.

SUKHUMI. July 9 (Interfax) - A number of people suspected of involvement in an attempt to assassinate Abkhaz Prime Minister Alexander Ankvaba have been identified, the breakaway province's Prosecutor General Safarbei Mikanba told journalists on Monday.
"We know a number of people who could be involved in the assassination attempt," he said.
The owner of the car the attackers are believed to have used to escape has already been identified, Mikanba said, refusing to provide further details.
