Sokhumi/Agency Caucasus – Economic prospectus in Abkhazia continue to receive attention from across Asia . An official visit of an Abkhazian group to was followed by a trip of a group of Singaporean businessmen to Sukhum.
The Singaporean group of businessmen will meet with Abkhazian Prime Minister Sergei Bagapsh and Abkhazian Parliament Speaker Nugzar Ashuba, said Deputy Foreign Minister Maksim Gvinciya of Abkhazia, and added that the group will also have talks with some government officials and Abkhazian businessmen.

According to the president, despite of that all the places of tourist groups are already sold; Abkhazia gets ready for the holiday season in the peaceful way.
Let’s remind, the Abkhazian government had been ordered the ministry of inner affairs to undertake all necessary measures for people’s safety during the summer holiday season of 2007.

On May 31 in Abkhazia they commemorated the Day of memory for victims of the Russian-Caucasian war and the violent eviction of the mountain peoples of Caucasus. That was informed in the Management of the governmental information.
On Mahadjeers’ Quay in Sukhumi, where it is planned to fix a monument, the wreath-laying ceremony was held. At the ceremony there were descendants of Abkhazian mahadjerrs, who came back to the historical native land, president Sergey Bagapsh, vice-president Raul Hadjimba, speaker of parliament Nuzgar Ashuba, deputies of the parliament, members of the Cabinet of Ministers, representatives of the public circles.

The authorities of unrecognized Republic of Abkhazia demanded form Georgia returning of the cultural treasures stolen during the armed conflict of 1992-1993.
In the widespread on Friday (25.05.07) statement of the Ministry of foreign affairs of the unrecognized republic it was written about "responsibility of the authorities of Georgia for the cultural genocide, committed during the Georgian occupation of the part of territories of Abkhazia in 1992-1993".

Sacking of city mayor triggers wider government crackdown.
By Inal Khashig in Sukhum (CRS No. 394 31-May-07) The Abkhazian leader Sergei Bagapsh has broken a longstanding taboo by declaring war on corrupt officials.
Bagapsh, president of the unrecognised republic since 2004, said he intended to fight corruption in the upper echelons of power. In his annual presidential address on May 30, he said that the chief objective of the government will be to tighten control over expenditure of money from the budget.
His public statements follow a scandal which cost the mayor and deputy mayor of the Abkhaz capital Sukhum their jobs.
There is speculation that the crackdown was forced on Bagapsh, who was away from Abkhazia when the scandal broke.
