"I think that, eventually, Georgia will realize that normal friendly
relations should be maintained with an independent neighboring state”,
Russia’s ambassador to Abkhazia Semyon Grigoriev told journalists
today.
At
the same time, according to him, "it’s hard to come to that conclusion
in the emotional atmosphere which exists in Georgia around the problems
of Abkhazia and South Ossetian now”. According to the diplomat, "it’s
not a matter of the next few years, but, as they often say about
complicated international problems, a matter of future generations”.

Foundation (Germany), produced by Studio RE, and directed by Mamuka
Kuparadze, was broadcast in 2009 for the first time. It is of great
importance to anyone who wishes properly to understand the Georgian -
Abkhaz War of 1992 - 1993.
When I first watched it, I was
surprised to find myself watching those responsible for starting the
war as they confessed, with regret, the facts that I already knew all

Georgia plans for ties with Abkhazia and S OssetiaDANIEL McLAUGHLIN Sat, Jan 30, 2010 GEORGIA
HAS drawn up a plan to strengthen economic and social links with
Abkhazia and South Ossetia, in the hope of eventually regaining control
of two rebel regions that Russia has recognised as independent states. The
Georgian government said it "rejects the pursuit of a military
solution” in seeking to "achieve the full de-occupation . . . and
reverse the process of annexation of these territories by the Russian
Federation”, following a five-day war between Moscow’s and Tbilisi’s
forces in August 2008. Tbilisi’s new strategy is intended to
restore grassroots co-operation between Georgians, Abkhaz and South
Ossetians, by restoring trade links, developing social and cultural
projects and improving access to healthcare and education for people in

Georgia’s so-called plan to cooperate
with Abkhazia is more than a decade too late. Access to broader trade
and commerce, education, healthcare, and cultural interaction are all
universally accepted confidence building measures. Abkhazia offered
the same ideas in 1997, and Georgia dismissed them. Let me be clear.
Abkhazia will never again be part of Georgia, and its people will not
give up their citizenship for empty promises from an untrustworthy and
hostile neighboring Government. We believe there are some among the
