CARACAS, February 20 (Itar-Tass) -- Abkhazia’s delegation is visiting Latin America to further develop political and economic relations with its countries, acting Foreign Minister Maxim Gvindzhiya told Itar-Tass on Saturday.

The agenda of the Abkhazian delegation’s working visit to the region includes the development of economic relations with Latin American countries, he said.

"We are looking for ways to fill our relations not only with political statements, but also with specific economic projects,” the acting foreign minister said.

MOSCOW -- Ties between Abkhazia and Russia have blossomed at a frantic rate ever since Moscow recognized the Georgian breakaway republic's independence following the Russia-Georgia war in 2008.

In the latest step, Abkhazia's de facto leader Sergei Bagapsh says his almost universally unrecognized territory would consider joining a customs union with Russia that would further open the Russian market to Abkhaz trade and help boost investment in the territory.

Abkhazia to inaugurate incumbent president

SUKHUM, February 12 (Itar-Tass) -- Abkhazia will inaugurate on Friday incumbent President Sergei Bagapsh and Russia will make him a present by restoring regular passenger flights to the ex-Soviet elite resort on the Black Sea after a 15-year break.

Bagapsh, 60, won the presidential election in December with 59.37 percent of votes.

Presidential spokesman Christian Bzhania told Tass Russia, which helped Abkhazia win independence from Georgia, will be represented by Federation Council speaker Sergei Mironov and 14 regional governors, including Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov.

The President of Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh congratulated Victor Yanukovych on his election as President of Ukraine.

"Results of free elections in Ukraine, whose openness and democratic character was mentioned by all international observers, show that you and your team have incontestable authority and confidence with the Ukrainian people. I am certain that with your coming relation between Ukraine and Abkhazia will be brought up to a qualitatively new level”, the President of Abkhazia’s telegram reads.

The head of Abkhazia expressed readiness for all-round cooperation with Ukraine. He wished Yanukovych health and success, and the people of Ukraine - well-being and prosperity.
