The president of Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh met on December, 22nd the representative of the United Nations secretary general under human rights and internally displaced persons, professor Walter Kaelin.

As IА REGNUM correspondent in Sukhumi reported, during their meeting problems of the Georgian-Abkhazian peace process (in particular, the situation in Gali area) were discussed. Professor Kaelina wondered about the position of Abkhazian management concerning opening in Gali area an office of the United Nations under human rights, placing of the component of the civil police as well as questions, concerned the forthcoming process of distribution of internal Abkhazian passports.

In the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone there was a firing last night. As they informed IА REGNUM correspondent in Tbilisi in the local police station, at 3.00 a.m. to the 207th blockhouse of the Russian peacemakers "Willis" car stopped. From the car several persons got out and opened fire in direction to the located on the opposite bank of Inguri river blockhouse of the Georgian power structures.

According to the employees of the Georgian law enforcement bodies, the shooting was conducted from grenade cup discharges and automatic weapons; the bags with sand around of the Georgian block-post had traces of bullets and splinters, however nobody from among the Georgian military men was wounded. On December, 20th at 5.00 a.m. there was an ignition on the fifth floor of the hotel "Moscow" (former "Ukraine") in Gagry (Abkhazia). The chief of the administration of Gagry area Valery Bganba informed about it in a telephone conversation with IА REGNUM correspondent. Under his information, as a result of the fire 14 rooms of the hotel were damaged. By a lucky chance during that moment there was nobody in the rooms.
