ABKHAZ DELEGATION TO TAKE PART IN GENEVA DISCUSSIONS ON SECURITY IN THE CAUCASUS

A delegation of Abkhazia will take part in the next round of the Geneva discussions on security in Transcaucasia. The discussions will be held on November 11.  

The delegation includes: the President’s aide on international issues Vyacheslav Chirikba, the Deputy Defense Minister Harry Kupalba, the chief of the International Department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs Lana Agrba and a member of the executive committee of the International Association of Abkhaz-Abazin (Abaza) people Zeki Kapba. The chief of the MFA Information Department Irakly Tuzhba told Apsnypress.

Tagliavini Commission's Conclusions Have Taught The European Union A Lesson - EU Special Representative

November 10, 2009 - The report of the Tagliavini Fact-Finding Commission on the conflict in Georgia “has taught the European Union a lesson", the EU special representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby believes.

In his opinion, "the main service of the report is that it allows us to look in the future, not the past now". "This report has given a clearer conception of what has happened. And it makes the discussions and negotiations held in Geneva easier because some problems that have complicated the negotiations until now, disappeared. Georgia protests against use of Russian phone codes in Abkhazia

Tbilisi has responded to its breakaway region Abkhazia replacing its Georgian dialling codes with Russian ones. “The Georgian Foreign Ministry will take all possible measures against the use of Russian phone codes in Abkhazia,” stated Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze at a briefing in Tbilisi on Monday.

The separatist authorities of Abkhazia adopted Russian phone codes this Sunday, replacing the Georgia country code (+995) with Russia’s +7940 and +7840. This move was explained by The Kremlin as being part of the “cooperation memorandum” signed between Sokhumi and Moscow in late September 2009. Georgian codes will be used in Abkhazia alongside the Russian ones until January 2010.
