APPEAL OF THE ABKHAZ ORTHODOX CHURCH
08/12/2009 19:00 ABKHAZIA, SUKHUM The Spiritual Council of Pitsunda and Sukhum
Eparchies of the Abkhaz Orthodox Church addressed the incumbent
President Sergey Bagapsh, the Parliament and the Cabinet, the
presidential candidates Zaur Ardzinba, Vitaly Bganba, Beslan Butba and
Raul Khadzhimba, presidential candidates’ staffs, political parties,
public organizations and the people of Abkhazia to remain loyal “to
conscience principles, the Orthodox Church canons and the legislation
in force of our Motherland”. The Orthodox Church calls all “to exclude
violation of morality canons and the God granted code of Apsuara in
election speeches and activity”. The acting head of the Pitsunda
and Sukhum Eparchy of the Abkhaz Orthodox Church the dean of the
Blagoveshchensky Cathedral of the city of Sukhum Priest Vissarion
Apliaa, the Secretary of the Eparchy Council hieromonk Andrey (Ampar),
hieromonk Vasilisk (Leiba), abbot Athanasius (Kovalchuk), hieromonk
Sergey (Dzhopua), priest Dolmat Gopia, priest Igor Artemev, priest
Matfei Tuzhba, priest Alexander Sergeev, priest Sergey Basov,
hieromonk Ignaty (Kiut) put their signatures to the appeal.
