24/9/2007 Abkhazian Ministry of Defence: Georgian militaries shot dead two Abkhazian prisoners
Sources in Abkhazia are asserting that two Abkhazian servicemen were executed by Georgian militaries already after capture, and they had rendered no resistance.
We remind you that the joint inspection, which on September 22-23 visited the place of the incident in the Tkuarchal District, has established that the murder of the Abkhazian frontier guards was committed in the territory of Abkhazia by Georgian armed formations, and not in the territory controlled by the authorities of Georgia, as it was presented by the Georgian party.
Anatoly Zaitsev, First Deputy Minister of Defence of Abkhazia and Chief of the Joint Staff, has stated this today to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. We note here that along with peacemakers and UN military observers the joint inspection group also included representatives of the Ministry of Defence of Abkhazia and of the Georgian party.
"It has been also established that our frontier guards did not render any resistance, and they were executed already in captivity, which is a severe violation of the Geneva Convention," Mr Zaitsev has added.
