African pig plague hits Abkhazia
Sukhum/Agency Caucasus – The Sukhum administration held responsible Georgia for the outbreak of African swine fever in southern Abkhazia.
Abkhazian officials accused Georgia of intentionally throwing pigs that died of the plague in upper Kodor away into the river of Ingur, which caused the virus to spread across eastern Abkhazia. Erik Anshba, head official from the Abkhazian Vet Services, pressed for the need to kill all pigs across eastern Abkhazia, and called for professional assistance from both international organizations and Russian experts to deal with the problem. Vladimir Nachach, a leading lawmaker at Abkhazian Parliament, called on prosecutors to charge Georgia with damaging the environment.
‘This is an assassination attempt’
“I think that the Georgian republic has made an attempt to assassinate the sovereign Republic of Abkhazia. An officially broad investigation should be conducted, accompanied by official attempts to let all world societies know that Georgia caused intentionally an untreatable disease to spread across Abkhazia,” said Nachach. Experts think of it as the only way to kill all pigs across eastern Abkhazia before the virus finds a way to spread across the entire country.
