Abkhazian flag in bed of Arctic
Moscow / Agency Caucasus - Russian explorers erected the flag of Abkhazia 4300 meters deep on the bed of the Arctic while they were exploring the North Pole. This event is expected to arouse feelings of anger among the Georgian people.

This voyage of exploration was intended to prove that the Lomonosov Ridge of 1,2 million kilometres length was actually an extension to Siberia’s continental shelf. The chain of mountains is believed to have up to 10 million barrels of oil.

Veteran Arctic explorer Artur Chilingarov said the explorers landed the flag of Abkhazia as well when they reached at the seabed.

“Dmitri Purim was an Abkhazian member of the crew of explorers. He planted the flag,” Chiligarov told reporters on Wednesday on his way back to Moscow.

Apart from the flag of Abkhazia, flags of 10 more regions were dropped onto the seabed of Arctic , said Chiligarov.

The fight for sharing the North Pole began to get fiercer when large blocks of ice melted away. Russia has been the first country to take steps to win this fight. Along with , the , , and are among the countries to win the fight.

The Canadian administration announced plans to erect a naval base and reinforce its military in the Arctic in order to guarantee its dominion over the region here.

A institution said 25 percent of the whole oil reserves in the world are available on the floor of the Arctic Ocean .

The Arctic is believed to have reserves of natural gas in extremely large quantities.

With large blocks of ice present on the Arctic Ocean , it was almost impossible to access those sources of energy available underneath the Ocean waters. However, the global warming led to the melting of the ice blocks, providing access to the regional analyses here. Experts say that the North-eastern Passage will gradually be more usable as ice blocks melt away in time. This means that the Passage will be available for cargo transition service after 2050.
