The president of Abkhazia, the management and the government of republic signed on February 16th in Sukhumi a joint statement of the leadership, political and public organizations in connection with the serious military threat of Georgia.
In the reference, in particular, it was spoken: "Georgia has openly declared about its intention to push out the Russian peace-making forces from South Ossetia and the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone. In essence, it has already started stage-by-stage destruction of all international mechanisms providing preservation of peace and conditions for resolution of the problems, the conflict had caused, through negotiations. Georgian terrorist groups, which make diversions and crimes against authorities of Abkhazia, Russian peacemakers and peace population, again began to be thrown in Gali area; military forces of Georgia in Kodorski gorge is increased, too. Besides an opportunity of recognition in immediate prospects of Kosovo’s independence can create an international-legal precedent for Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Therefore, the Georgian management will try to change the situation to its own advantage through violence before recognition of Kosovo’s independence. In the view of the developing situation Abkhazia undertakes active efforts for prevention of the military threat using diplomatic ways. At the same time, we take measures on strengthening of security system which level for the last years has been seriously grown. Our people is ready to face possible military aggression of Georgia".
