From: MSN NicknameEagle_wng (Original Message) Sent: 2/6/2006 1:45 PM UN Watch Mission’s mandate in Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone prolonged till March 31st 2.2.2006 At the official session of Security Council of the United Nations on January 31st this year the brief technical resolution # 1656 about prolongation of the mandate of UN Watch Mission in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone till March 31st, 2006 had been unanimously adopted. Changes of the format of that resolution SC of the UN and the prolongation term of the mandate of the UN Mission were the coordinated decisions of the Council members in connection with amendments offered by the Russian party to the traditional project of the resolution.
Their main point is abolition of the references to the document of 2001 about "Main principles of differentiation of powers between Tbilisi and Sukhumi" ("D.Boden's document") which for the last years did not promote in any way the universal political settlement of the conflict and even, on contrary, blocked subject negotiations on that theme. IА REGNUM was informed that in the Department of information and press of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
"Our promotion of these offers does not mean at all any withdrawal of Russia from support of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia. The purpose of our amendments is to open road for renewal of negotiations about universal political settlement of the conflict, to refuse attempts of imposing idle formulas.
Russia being a promoting party, considers that in searching the ways of the conflict’s resolution it is necessary to consider carefully opinions of the both parties, and Russia is ready for subject discussion (within the limits of the meeting beginning in Geneva of "Group of friends of the United Nations Secretary General" across Georgia) concerning further joint steps in the political settlement of the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict", - it was remarked in the statement.
