Abkhazian president ordered "to react operatively to actions of Georgian bands" 5.2.2006 The president of Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh charged to the heads of the State Security Council and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of republic "and henceforth to react operatively to actions of Georgian bands in the region". As the head of the governmental information Christian Bjania informed IА REGNUM, at the meeting taken place today in Sukhumi with participation of the Minister of Internal Affairs Otar Hetzia and the chairman of the State security service Jury Ashuba, heads of those departments had reported to the leader of the state about the process of investigation concerning members of the Georgian militarized grouping neutralized on January 31st in Gali area.
Note: during an operation on band’s neutralization its one participant – Ehvaja Bachana - was killed in reciprocal fire. Earlier he had been suspected of committing of several armed assaults and abductions of citizens. Three other members of the band group – Ghyzo Beraja, Demna Bechvaja and Ghela Morohia - were detained and now testify.
The chiefs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the SSC of Abkhazia reported to the president on finding out of interrelation of the neutralized band with the power departments of Georgia. Investigators discovered that fact that Bechvaja, native of village Shamgona of Zugdidi area of Georgia, is in service in the rank of master-sergeant in the Georgian special division "Shavnabada" ("Black Caucasian cloak") deployed on the military base "Vaziani". According to confessions of the military man of the Georgian special troops, he served in the staff of the Georgian forces in Iraq. " These actions are directed on artificial aggravation of the situation in Gali area of Abkhazia with the purpose to give it some political character," - it was underlined in the message. "During the special operation the gangsters were withdrawn 4 automatic guns, 12 charges to them, 4 masks. It was obvious that the group had committed in the Gali sector of security zone a number of grave crimes - murders, abductions of citizens, armed assaults against the local population", - informed Bjania.
