Sergey Shamba: Georgia does not have resources  for war against Abkhazia
24.2.2006

The strategic research center and the Abkhazian branch of "Caucasian Institute of Democracy" organized a round table on the theme of Abkhazia’s security in the context of the global political processes. As IА REGNUM correspondent reported referring to the Abkhazian TV, in the opinion of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia Sergey Shamba, Georgia at the present stage is not interested in a war against Abkhazia.

"It does not have resources for this", - the chief the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told, having emphasized thus that at the same time, it is necessary to consider the fact that by virtue of the geopolitic conditions of Abkhazia, military threat always exists. "We always need to be ready to defend", - he noted. Concerning the problems of the negotiating process, Shamba told that it would need to be continued even if there were not yet any valuable results.

At the meeting they talked over the opportunity of opening of the office on human rights in Gali area and founding of civil police. Discussing the first question participants expressed opinion that representatives of the local nongovernmental organizations could execute that work. The chairman of the Women’s Association of Abkhazia Natella Aqaba suggested the deputies of Abkhazian parliament to address with a letter to the PASS where the document condemning the communistic regime recently had been adopted. "The Georgian-Abkhazian conflict is a direct consequence of that regime", - considered Aqaba.

The president assistant on economic questions Arthur Mikvabija, the vice-premier Leonid Lakerbaja, the Minister for Foreign Affairs Sergey Shamba, representatives of public organizations, parties, the deputies of the parliament took part in the round table.
