The president of Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh and the head of the United Nations mission in Georgia, the UN secretary general special representative Hajdi Taliavini discussed on January 18th the situation in frontier with Georgia Gali area of Abkhazia.
The leader of Abkhazia expressed his concern in connection with activization of activities of Georgian illegal military formations in Gali area. Sergey Bagapsh informed Mrs. Taliavini that the management of Abkhazia planned to undertake in the nearest future a number of actions of forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State security service of republic for security of inhabitants of Gali area. Bagapsh expressed indignation in occasion of statements of Georgian politicians, in particular, the state minister on settlement of conflicts George Haindarava containing insults of Abkhazian people.
Dividing concern of Abkhazian leadership in connection with the situation in Gali area, Hajdi Taliavini suggested leading on the nearest Saturday in village Chuburhindzh a meeting of representatives of the Georgian and the Abkhazian parties for discussion of security issues. The president of Abkhazia had agreed to take part in such meeting.
The United Nations special representative delivered to the president a draft agreement on the international security guarantees and not renewing of fire, with amendments of the Georgian party. Having familiarized preliminary with the document, Sergey Bagapsh declared that the offered project cardinally differed from the one coordinated earlier and essential changes made by the Georgian party were not comprehensible to Abkhazia.
