Abkhazian Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls Georgia to state  firm line in relation to terrorist groups
17.1.2006

In the statement made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia on January, 17th in connection with activization of Georgian terrorist groups in Gali area of republic, it was spoken: "Accruing activities of Georgian terrorist groups creates precedent for adequate reaction. In this connection Abkhazia focuses attention of the international community and all the participants of the Georgian-Abkhazian negotiating process on this fact, as well as on that the leader of a terrorist group Zurab Samushija openly declares renewal of the terrorist groups’ activities in territory of Abkhazia".

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia emphasized that the aggressive rhetoric of the Georgian party "can lead to new jump of intensity in Gali area and undermining of the renewed negotiating process". " In Georgia there are forces still influential enough, which do not wish to solve the problems of the Georgian-Abkhazian mutual relations in peaceful ways and which aspire to use power pressure, expression of aggression and intimidation. We are interested in constructive peace dialogue and we confirm that our position consists of that a real basis for negotiating progress can become a necessary level of trust between the parties", - was spoken in the statement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarded the fact of returning to the methods of terrorist war against Abkhazia as "tendency to pushing out the CIS Collective peace-making forces from the conflict zone". "That is proved with numerous statements of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Georgia in which direct charges of the peace-making forces and authorities of Abkhazia in inability to supervise the situation are sounded. It does not raise any doubts that similar coordinated actions are directed on absolutely precise and definite purpose: replacement of the peace-making contingent", - it was spoken in the statement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia is "categorically against any revision of the coordinated format of the peace-making mission" and considers that the present mandate of the peacemakers "is a real guarantee of peace and stability in the region".

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hopes that "the management of Georgia will choose firmer line concerning possible renewal of activities of terrorist groups, will show its interest in creation of favorable - as much as possible - political climate between Georgia and Abkhazia, and will strengthen measures for security and order in the frontier territories with Abkhazia".

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs also declared that the Abkhazian party reserved the right after itself to undertake adequate reciprocal actions on protection of its citizens and sovereignty of Abkhazia Republic.
