"If the Georgian party brings in corrective amendments in the Agreement on security guarantees and not renewal of military actions, we shall not sign it". That was declared by the president of Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh at the press conference on December, 27th. As IА REGNUM correspondent in Sukhumi reported, the Abkhazian leader opposed any changes into the Agreement on guarantees of security and not renewal of military actions.
That document, as he said, had been coordinated on December, 6-7th - during the visit to Abkhazia of the representative of the Georgian authority at intermediary of the United Nations Secretary General Special representative Hajdi Taljavini. In the document they plan to provide, that in case of war threat the Security Council of the United Nations would arrange for its suppression. The parties should guarantee each other refusal from confrontation and application to force.
According to Abkhazian president, the document would mean nothing, if in it there was the precise guarantees against war renewal and Russian Federation, the United Nations and intermediaries in the negotiating process were not the guarantors of that. "However participation of Russian Federation, presence of its peace-making forces in the conflict zone on which the Abkhazian party insists, causes negative reaction of the Georgian party", - told Bagapsh. Thus he emphasized that Abkhazia supported presence of the peace-making forces in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone, and "they will be here".
At the same time Bagapsh informed that his meeting with the leader of Georgia Michael Saakashvili could take place only after signing the Agreement on security guarantees and not renewal of military actions. "Politicians should meet but their meetings should be effective, instead of meetings for the sake of meeting", - summarized Bagapsh.
