Minister for Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia Sergey Shamba met representatives of the Tbilisi office of the Management of the Supreme Commissioner of the United Nations on affairs of refugees (MSC) Snejanna Sazdich and Florian Daloney.

As they informed IА REGNUM in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia, the present visit of the UN MSC representatives has fact-finding character. The delegates intend to develop strategy of their further work that would help to involve new donors. The basic attention was paid to the problem concerning the forthcoming registration of refugees who had come back to Gali area; the registration will pass with the direct participation of the UN MSC and is planned in spring of the next year. Sergey Shamba expressed once again the interest of Abkhazian party in the prompt beginning of the process of verification that would give access to precise information on quantity of the returned people. "We have approved the strategic plan for the nearest two years offered by the UN MSC and are ready to its realization. The following round of the negotiations on this problem will take place, most likely, not earlier than the end of April, 2006", - he noted.

"Since our last meeting in Sochi, the situation in Gali area became more troubled. Revanchist actions and statements of Georgian authorities cause fear among the returned people that should be affect the process as a whole. Threat of the conflict’s renewal will inevitably lead to the new emigration wave of the already returned people", - told Shamba. The UN MSC representatives informed about forthcoming rotation of the head of the offices in Gali and Zugdidi Cate Gordon. On the fifth of December Yucca Hasegava will be introduced to the minister as the new head of the UN offices.
