The president of Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh has received Turkish ambassador in Georgia Aerton Tezgor. The vice-president Raul Hadzhimba and the minister for Foreign Affairs Sergey Shamba had taken part in the meeting. As the head of the department of the governmental information of Abkhazia Christian Bzhanija informed IА REGNUM, it is the first meeting of the Turkish diplomat with Sergey Bagapsh since the moment of his inauguration.
The ambassador of Turkey considers that his country could play more important role in resolution of the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict. In particular, according to Tezgor, " Turkey can make much for such country as Abkhazia to become opened for the whole world ". President Bagapsh thanked the ambassador of Turkey for the shown interest to Abkhazia. The head of the state noted that in Abkhazia they always watch with greater interest processes which occur in Turkey as the most numerous Abkhazian diaspora lives there.
Having expressed gratitude to Turkish leadership for its desire to bring the contribution to settlement of the Georgian-Abkhazian mutual relations, the president expressed fears in occasion of military cooperation of Turkey and Georgia. " A dialogue when one country is being armed while the second one is declared to be in blockade, cannot normally develop ", - told Bagapsh. The president noted that nowadays the only country with which Abkhazia’s developing its economic attitudes is Russia. S. Bagapsh mentioned that Abkhazia is ready to dialogue with any country, especially such as Turkey.
Speaking about mutual relations with Georgia, the president said that the future of Abkhazia is already defined by its people. " We’re building up the independent state, are ready to carry on dialogue with Georgia on equal rights conditions ", - he emphasized. According to the head of Abkhazia, economic cooperation with Georgia at the present stage is probable only in the field of energetic sphere and railway communication. Discussion of any other economic projects could be only after signing a peace treaty with Georgia. The head of the state informed also the Turkish diplomat that under the Abkhazian diaspora’s invitation he planned to visit Turkey this summer.
