Russia remains as Abkhazia’s primary economic partner, according to a statement made by Sergey Bagapsh, President of Abkhazia, on April 11th, at the opening of the Second International Construction- Production Conference "Abkhazia -2005 Building, Architecture, New Technologies".
According to the President, Russia’s relation to Abkhazia has been changing, and Abkhazia will create all the necessary conditions for mutually beneficial economic collaboration with Russian owners, firms, and companies. "We will re-examine boundary and customs issues, and create positive investment conditions", said Bagapsh. The President issued a call to conference participants to boldly invest in the economy of the republic. He guaranteed the revision and adoption of corresponding laws, and the safety not only of investments, but also of investors themselves.
Bagapsh is convinced that a better tax system is required for Russian investors. "Any projects directed toward the restoration and rehabilitation of the economy of Abkhazia on mutually advantageous terms will always receive our support", he said.
More than 50 Russian and international construction firms, companies, and groups took part in the conference.
