April 4 (Interfax) - Abkhaz President Sergei Bagapsh and South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity were ready to meet with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili in Sochi on Monday with mediation from Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is also in Sochi, but the meeting failed to take place.
"The South Ossetian president, who is currently in Abkhazia, was ready for a meeting and expecting it. This is further proof that we are ready to use peaceful means to search for a solution. Kokoity was in Abkhazia, hoping until the last moment that the meeting would take place," South Ossetian envoy to Russia Dmitry Medoyev told reporters at Interfax's main office on Monday.

TBILISI. April 4 (Interfax) - The Abkhaz authorities are illegally trying to gain control over the Abkhaz sector of the Georgian sea border, the Georgian Interior Ministry's Border Department said in a statement on Monday.
"Military units subordinated to the unrecognized authorities of Abkhazia, which are seeking control over part of Georgia's sea border, are illegal, and their actions will be regarded as military provocations," the statement reads.
The Georgian Border Department denied reports from Sukhumi that Georgian vessels had trespassed on the so-called territorial waters of Abkhazia on March 15.

His four-car motorcade was ambushed and fired on with automatic weapons as the Prime Minister departed from Sukhumi. The Prime Minister and Vice-Premier Leonil Lakerbaya were riding together and were not injured. Their driver, Roman Geria, was injured and taken to the hospital. This was the second attempt on Aleksandr Ankvab. The first attempt was on February 27th. The Minister of Internal Affairs of Abkhazia, Otar Khetsiya, believes that this attempt was carried out by the same people who participated in the first attempt.
